Jackson, Kentucky – Snow showers are expected to develop late tonight across eastern Kentucky, with light accumulations possible Friday and snow continuing into Saturday, particularly in eastern portions of the region, while bitter cold temperatures settle in for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, snow showers will begin overnight and increase in coverage Friday. Accumulations are expected to remain generally light, but cold ground temperatures will allow snow to accumulate efficiently on untreated surfaces, increasing the risk of slick roads.

Snow is forecast to persist into Saturday, mainly east of Interstate 75, including communities along U.S. Route 23, Kentucky Route 15, and Kentucky Route 80. While widespread heavy snowfall is not anticipated, even minor accumulations could impact travel due to prolonged cold.

High temperatures on Friday are expected to range from the lower 20s to lower 30s, with overnight lows dropping into the single digits and teens. On Saturday, highs may struggle to reach 15 to 19 degrees, with lows falling back into the single digits once again.

The National Weather Service notes that bitter cold temperatures will be the dominant hazard, particularly Friday night through the weekend. Wind chills will make it feel even colder, posing risks to those without adequate heat, shelter, or winter clothing.

Roadways including Interstate 75, Interstate 64, and major state routes may experience slick spots, especially during overnight and early morning hours. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and remain alert for changing road conditions.

Students, commuters, and weekend travelers across eastern Kentucky should monitor forecast updates, as small changes in snow intensity or placement could affect travel conditions. Residents are encouraged to take cold-weather precautions, including protecting pets, checking heating systems, and safeguarding exposed pipes.
