Boston, MA – Parts of Massachusetts could see heavy snow and dangerous travel conditions this weekend as a strengthening nor’easter moves up the East Coast, according to federal forecasters.

According to the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center, confidence is increasing for moderate to significant snowfall impacts across portions of southern New England, including Massachusetts, from Friday through early Monday morning. The storm is expected to intensify rapidly as it tracks northward, pulling moisture into colder air over the region.

Forecast guidance shows the highest risk for impactful snowfall in eastern and southeastern Massachusetts, including coastal and interior areas near Boston, Plymouth County, and Cape Cod, though exact totals remain uncertain. Snowfall rates could become heavy at times, potentially reducing visibility and making untreated roads hazardous.

In addition to snow, strong onshore winds are expected along the Massachusetts coastline. Gusty winds combined with periods of heavy snow could lead to near-blizzard conditions, especially Saturday night into Sunday. Coastal communities may also face minor to locally moderate coastal flooding during high tide cycles.

Forecasters caution that small shifts in the storm’s track could significantly change snowfall amounts, particularly farther inland. Areas north and west of Boston may still see accumulating snow, but confidence is lower compared to eastern sections of the state.

Residents are urged to monitor forecasts closely, prepare for possible travel disruptions, and plan for potential power outages if heavy snow and strong winds materialize.
