Florida wakes up to an unfamiliar winter edge this morning as lawns sparkle with frost and cold air pools in low-lying neighborhoods. Windshields feel stiff to the touch, and palm fronds hang still under a rare chill.

A Frost Advisory remains in effect across northeast Florida through mid-morning, including Jacksonville and surrounding coastal and inland communities. According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, temperatures dipping to the mid-30s allow frost to form, especially away from the immediate coastline. Sensitive outdoor plants can be damaged or killed if left uncovered.

Early readings sit near 40 degrees at sunrise, but colder pockets inland briefly slipped lower. Light northwest winds add to the chill, making it feel colder during early errands. Bridges and roadways remain dry, though drivers should remain alert for slick spots in shaded areas.

Temperatures rebound quickly later today under sunshine, climbing into the upper 50s. Relief, however, is short-lived. Another push of colder air settles in late tonight, setting the stage for a sharper cold snap heading into the weekend.

By Saturday night into Sunday morning, much colder air spills south, bringing the coldest conditions of the season so far. Lows may drop into the 20s inland, with widespread frost likely again and a potential freeze for some communities. Gusty winds near the coast will make it feel even colder.

Looking ahead, the pattern stays active across the eastern U.S., driven by deep Arctic air and storm systems farther north. While North Florida avoids snow, winter-like conditions linger into early next week before gradual moderation.
