Central and South-Central Virginia – A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon across portions of central, south-central, and southeast Virginia, with accumulating snow and hazardous travel conditions possible.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are possible in Prince Edward, Mecklenburg, Lunenburg, Nottoway, Brunswick, and Greensville counties. These totals could lead to snow-covered roads and widespread travel difficulties through the weekend.

A separate Winter Storm Watch covers Amelia, Cumberland, and Powhatan counties, where 2 to 5 inches of snow are possible during the same period. Forecasters warn that slippery road conditions and difficult travel are likely as snow accumulates.

The Winter Storm Watch means conditions are favorable for significant winter weather, though snowfall totals and timing may change as the storm system develops. Impacts are expected to begin Friday evening, with hazardous conditions persisting into Sunday afternoon.

Residents across the region are urged to monitor forecast updates closely and prepare for deteriorating road conditions, especially if travel plans are scheduled for the weekend.
