Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Dangerous cold conditions will continue across the Philadelphia region through the end of the week, with overnight lows dropping into the single digits and wind chills falling below zero, increasing the risk of frostbite and hypothermia.

According to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia/Mount Holly, temperatures tonight are expected to fall into the single digits across much of eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, with a few locations potentially dipping below zero. As winds persist overnight, wind chill values between -5 and -15 degrees are forecast in many areas.

The coldest conditions are expected overnight and during early morning hours through Friday, with little relief during the day as highs remain well below seasonal averages. Forecasters note that this will be the coldest stretch so far this winter for parts of the region.

Travel and exposure risks are heightened along major corridors such as Interstate 95, Interstate 76, Interstate 295, and Interstate 476, where early-morning commuters, transit riders, and stranded motorists could face dangerous conditions if exposed for extended periods. The NWS warns that frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes under these wind chill values.

Vulnerable populations, including the elderly, unhoused individuals, and those without reliable heating, face increased risks during prolonged cold events. Pet owners are urged to bring animals indoors, and residents should protect pipes by allowing faucets to drip and ensuring adequate home heating.

Drivers are encouraged to keep winter emergency kits in vehicles, particularly when traveling overnight or before sunrise.

This forecast is especially relevant for commuters, students, outdoor workers, and early-shift employees across the region.

Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service as cold conditions persist through the end of the week.
