Spokane Valley, WA – A stolen vehicle was recovered and one suspect arrested Tuesday morning after a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office license plate reader alert led deputies to a parking lot in Spokane Valley.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, the Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system notified deputies around 7:55 a.m. on January 27, 2026, of a stolen 1998 Honda CRV near E. Broadway Avenue and Sullivan Road. Deputies quickly located the SUV in a nearby business parking lot.

Authorities detained the driver, identified as 37-year-old Daren R. Beach, after confirming the vehicle had been reported stolen from E. Mission Avenue on January 12, 2026. Beach allegedly told deputies he had traded another vehicle for the CRV earlier that morning but could not provide paperwork to support his claim.

During a subsequent search, deputies allegedly found a bag containing what appeared to be methamphetamine. A field test returned a presumptive positive result.

Beach was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Controlled Substance. The recovered vehicle was returned to its registered owner.
