La Crosse, Wisconsin – Cold and dry conditions will persist across western Wisconsin through the end of the workweek, keeping temperatures well below seasonal averages before a gradual warmup arrives this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, high temperatures from Wednesday through Friday will range from 5 to 15 degrees, while overnight lows fall between 0 and 15 degrees below zero. Wind chills during this period are expected to range from 10 below to as cold as 25 below zero overnight, creating hazardous conditions for prolonged outdoor exposure.
Forecasters say daytime wind chills will remain between 0 and 10 below, particularly affecting early-morning and late-night travel. These conditions may impact commuters and commercial traffic along Interstate 90, U.S. Highway 14, and Wisconsin Highway 16, especially during peak travel hours.
By Saturday, a modest improvement is expected, with highs reaching 15 to 20 degrees and overnight lows between 0 and 5 degrees. While still cold, this represents a noticeable shift from the extreme conditions experienced during the week.
Looking ahead to Sunday through Tuesday, the National Weather Service indicates a more significant warmup. High temperatures are forecast to climb into the 25 to 30 degree range, with a 40 to 60 percent chance of above-normal temperatures continuing into next week. Normal highs for this time of year typically range from the low to mid-20s.
Officials urge residents to continue cold-weather precautions through Friday, including dressing in layers, limiting time outdoors, and ensuring pets and exposed pipes are protected. Drivers should also remain alert for cold-related vehicle issues and icy patches during overnight and early morning travel.
The improving temperature trend next week may bring relief for commuters, students, and outdoor workers following several days of persistent cold.
