Huntsville, Alabama – While warmer air pushes across much of the central Plains, the Tennessee Valley is expected to remain on the colder side as February begins, with below-normal temperatures and recurring freezing conditions holding across northern Alabama and parts of Arkansas.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, temperatures across the Tennessee Valley are expected to run below seasonal averages from Monday through Friday, while precipitation remains near normal. This combination favors cold mornings and limited afternoon recovery rather than widespread storm activity.

Across northern Arkansas, the persistent chill may continue to support frost and refreezing on untreated roads during the overnight and early morning hours. In Alabama, colder air is expected to linger longer than typical for early February, particularly across the Tennessee Valley and higher terrain.

In the Huntsville metro area, daytime highs are expected to stay suppressed, with several mornings dipping to or below freezing. Any light precipitation that develops could create isolated slick spots, especially on bridges and elevated roadways during the morning commute.

Residents are advised to take continued cold-weather precautions, including protecting sensitive plants, checking heating systems, and allowing extra travel time during early hours. The National Weather Service notes the colder pattern may persist into midweek, and additional advisories could be issued if precipitation overlaps with freezing temperatures.
