Grand Junction, CO – Light mountain snow is expected to affect travel on high-elevation roadways overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a weak weather disturbance will move through western Colorado Wednesday evening and overnight, bringing generally light snow to the northern and central mountains. Snowfall amounts are expected to remain minor, but even light accumulations could impact travel on mountain passes and elevated highways.

Roadways most likely to be affected include Interstate 70 through the central mountains, including Vail Pass, Glenwood Canyon, and areas near Eagle and Rifle, as well as Highway 82 near Aspen. Snow showers may be intermittent, but brief reductions in visibility and slick spots on untreated roads are possible overnight into early Thursday.

The National Weather Service indicated that high temperatures Wednesday will remain seasonal for late January, and no widespread lowland impacts are expected. Valley locations, including Grand Junction, are expected to see little to no accumulation, while higher elevations pick up light snow showers or flurries.

Forecasters noted that additional weak disturbances may brush the northern mountains over the coming days, leading to occasional flurries and light snow showers, though no significant winter storm is currently anticipated. Temperatures are forecast to gradually warm heading into the weekend, which may help limit long-term travel impacts.

Drivers traveling overnight or early Thursday across mountain corridors are advised to use caution, reduce speeds, and check road conditions before departure, especially on passes and shaded stretches where snow and ice may linger.

Ski-area traffic, overnight freight drivers, and early-morning commuters using I-70 through the mountains should remain alert for changing conditions.
