Jackson, Kentucky — A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect across parts of eastern Kentucky Wednesday morning as well-below-normal temperatures continue to impact travel and daily routines along Interstate 64, I-75, and surrounding roadways.
According to the National Weather Service office in Jackson, the advisory remains active until 11 a.m. Wednesday for Fleming, Montgomery, Bath, and Rowan counties. Morning temperatures remain near or below freezing, with wind chills making conditions feel colder during early commute hours.
Forecasters report that the cold pattern will persist through the remainder of the week, with most overnight temperatures remaining below freezing through the weekend. Daytime highs are expected to stay suppressed, limiting any meaningful thaw and allowing cold conditions to linger across the region.
While Wednesday is expected to remain mostly quiet, with a mix of sun and clouds and only isolated flurries possible, clouds will increase Thursday ahead of the next disturbance. Chances for snow return Friday and Saturday, though accumulation details remain uncertain at this time.
Even light snow could lead to slick spots, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated secondary roads along I-64, I-75, U.S. 23, and KY Route 15. Cold pavement temperatures may allow snow or flurries to briefly stick during overnight and early morning periods.
The National Weather Service also cautions that additional reinforcing shots of arctic air are possible later this week and into the weekend, potentially prolonging hazardous cold conditions. A more noticeable warming trend is expected to arrive early next week.
Residents are urged to continue cold-weather precautions, including protecting pipes, bringing pets indoors, and checking on elderly neighbors. Drivers should allow extra travel time during early mornings when temperatures are coldest.
Students, commuters, and early-shift workers should prepare for continued cold starts and remain alert for changing conditions as snow chances increase late in the week.
