Below-normal temperatures will continue across the Quad Cities region into the weekend, with repeated nights of subzero wind chills impacting early morning travel.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, daytime highs are expected to remain in the teens and lower 20s through Saturday, while overnight lows fall into the single digits above and below zero. Each night into the early morning hours, wind chill values are forecast to drop below zero, creating dangerous cold exposure conditions.

Communities including Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island, Moline, and East Moline will experience the coldest conditions during late-night and pre-dawn hours. Major roadways such as I-80, I-74, I-280, and US-6 may be impacted as commuters, overnight workers, and travelers are exposed to the cold for even short periods of time.

Forecast details show morning wind chills ranging from 10 to 18 degrees below zero at times, particularly Thursday night into Friday morning. While no significant snowfall is expected, the prolonged cold can still create hazards, including vehicle reliability issues and increased frostbite risk.

The National Weather Service advises residents to dress in multiple layers, cover exposed skin, and limit time outdoors during the coldest periods. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes when wind chills fall below zero. Motorists are encouraged to ensure vehicles are winter-ready and to keep emergency supplies in case of breakdowns.

Daytime conditions will improve slightly under sunshine at times, but temperatures will remain well below normal for late January. Some moderation is possible beyond the weekend, though cold nights are expected to persist in the near term.

Residents should continue monitoring updated forecasts, especially those with early morning travel plans or outdoor work, as winter conditions remain firmly in place across eastern Iowa and western Illinois.
