Wilmington, Ohio – Sunday’s winter storm delivered record-breaking snowfall across parts of Ohio, setting new one-day records in several major cities and underscoring the storm’s historic impact.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, updated climate data shows that Dayton, Columbus, and Cincinnati each recorded top-15 one-day snowfall totals from the Sunday storm, with some locations breaking long-standing daily records.

In Dayton, 12.4 inches of snow fell on January 25, setting a new one-day snowfall record for the date. This surpassed the previous record of 5.0 inches set in 2023. The snowfall now ranks as the highest single-day total on record for Dayton during the month of January.

Columbus also set a new daily record, recording 11.9 inches of snow on January 25. The previous record for the date was 4.7 inches, set in 1988. This places the storm among the most significant single-day snowfall events in the city’s recorded history.

Cincinnati recorded 8.1 inches of snow on January 25, breaking the previous daily record of 5.8 inches set in 2004. While lower than totals farther north, the snowfall was enough to place the event among Cincinnati’s top daily snowfalls on record.

The heaviest impacts were felt along major transportation corridors including Interstate 70, Interstate 71, and Interstate 75, where snow-covered roads, reduced visibility, and travel disruptions persisted throughout the day. Cleanup efforts continued into the following week as crews worked to clear roads and restore normal operations.

The National Weather Service emphasized that these records reflect snowfall measured from midnight to midnight and are based on official climate observing sites.

This storm was part of a broader winter system that brought significant snowfall across the Ohio Valley and Midwest, contributing to one of the snowiest weekends of the season.

Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring official climate summaries as final rankings are confirmed.
