Burlington, Vermont – Final snowfall totals from the most recent winter storm show much of Vermont and the North Country buried under widespread double-digit snow accumulations, with several areas approaching or exceeding 20 inches.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, the storm ended Tuesday with final mapped snowfall totals generally ranging from 12 to 18 inches across much of the state. Higher totals were observed across portions of central and eastern Vermont, where localized amounts reached between 18 and 21 inches. These totals reflect measurements from National Weather Service observers, spotters, media reports, and state and local officials.

The heaviest snow fell along and east of the Green Mountains, affecting communities near major travel corridors including Interstate 89, Interstate 91, U.S. Route 2, and U.S. Route 7. Travel conditions were significantly impacted during the storm, with snow-covered roads, reduced visibility, and plow operations ongoing into Tuesday.

In the Champlain Valley, snowfall totals were generally in the lower end of the range, while higher elevations and interior valleys saw greater accumulations. Portions of the Northeast Kingdom recorded some of the highest totals statewide, with several reports near the 20-inch mark.

The National Weather Service emphasized that the snowfall map represents an interpolation of observed reports and should be considered an estimate, though it provides a reliable snapshot of the storm’s overall impact. All values shown reflect storm totals ending January 27.

This system contributed to the Northeast ranking among the snowiest regions in the nation over the past several days. The prolonged snowfall added to an already active winter pattern across northern New England.

Commuters, students, and commercial drivers traveling along Vermont’s primary highways may continue to encounter narrowed lanes and residual snowbanks as cleanup efforts continue.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local conditions and follow guidance from transportation officials as crews work to clear remaining snow.
