Northeast Ohio – A Snow Squall Warning is in effect through 5:15 p.m. EST after intense snowfall and high winds created dangerous travel conditions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, radar confirmed a fast-moving snow squall producing intense bursts of heavy snow, wind gusts over 35 mph, and visibility rapidly dropping below one-quarter mile.
At 4:16 p.m. EST, the squall was located along a line extending from near Avon Lake to North Ridgeville to New London, moving east at approximately 40 mph. The system is expected to continue tracking west to east across the greater Cleveland area through early evening.
The warning includes portions of Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit counties, with impacts reported in Cleveland, Akron, Parma, Lakewood, Strongsville, Brunswick, Westlake, Solon, Hudson, Twinsburg, and surrounding communities.
Motorists are strongly urged to avoid travel, particularly on Interstates 480, 90, 71, 77, 76, and 271, where conditions can deteriorate within minutes due to sudden whiteout conditions.
The National Weather Service warns that snow squalls are especially dangerous because of their rapid onset, often catching drivers off guard during otherwise manageable winter conditions.
For commuters and evening travelers, conditions may change abruptly, even on treated roadways.
