Austin, Texas – Central Texas residents will see a wide temperature swing this week as a brief warming trend gives way to another round of cold air by the end of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service Austin–San Antonio, today will start off cold but turn milder by the afternoon as mid- to high-level clouds return. High temperatures are expected to reach the 40s to low 50s, depending on location, with dry conditions continuing across the region.

Forecasters say a warming trend will build through Thursday, when many locations climb into the 60s, including Austin, San Antonio, San Marcos, and New Braunfels. This brief moderation will be short-lived, however, as a reinforcing shot of cold air arrives Friday, dropping temperatures again heading into the weekend.

Morning lows this weekend are expected to fall into the upper teens and 20s, particularly in outlying areas and Hill Country communities. No rain is expected over the next seven days, but repeated cold mornings could still impact travel and outdoor activity.

Areas along major corridors such as Interstate 35, Interstate 10, U.S. Highway 281, and Loop 1604 may notice sharp temperature changes between morning and afternoon hours, especially during the Friday morning commute. Bridges and elevated roadways could feel colder early in the day, even without precipitation.

The National Weather Service notes that while afternoons may feel comfortable midweek, winter conditions are not finished across Central Texas. Residents are encouraged to dress in layers, prepare for cold mornings, and check on pets and vulnerable individuals.

Students, early-shift workers, and commuters traveling before sunrise may feel the coldest impacts as temperatures dip again late week.
