Youngstown, Ohio – Areas along the Ohio–Pennsylvania border face a minimal but slowly increasing chance of winter weather impacts this weekend, with probabilities generally ranging from 5% to 15% between 7 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Monday as a coastal storm develops farther east.

According to the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center, a strengthening low-pressure system is expected to track northward along the East Coast this weekend. The primary storm path is forecast to remain well east of the Ohio Valley, limiting overall impacts across the Ohio–Pennsylvania border region.

However, colder air across the interior Northeast may allow light snow or flurries to brush parts of eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania if the storm shifts slightly west or if moisture wraps farther inland than currently projected.

Current risk assessment includes:

  • Eastern Ohio (Mahoning, Columbiana counties): 5%–10% chance
  • Western Pennsylvania (Mercer, Lawrence counties): 10%–15% chance
  • Higher terrain and overnight periods: Slightly elevated risk

Any winter precipitation would most likely occur late Saturday into Sunday and would be light and spotty. Accumulations, if any, are expected to be minimal, though brief slick spots could develop on bridges and untreated roads.

Major travel routes including Interstate 80, Interstate 79, and U.S. Route 62 are expected to remain largely unaffected, though drivers should remain alert during overnight and early morning hours if temperatures dip below freezing.

Forecasters emphasize that confidence is high that major impacts will remain east of the region, but small shifts in storm track could marginally increase snow chances closer to the state line.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed but should not expect significant disruptions. Weekend travelers and commuters near the Ohio–Pennsylvania border should monitor updates in case probabilities increase.
