Dover, Delaware – Delaware faces a 40% chance of moderate winter storm impacts this weekend, with periods of hazardous travel possible between 7 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Monday as a developing coastal storm tracks along the East Coast.

According to the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center, a strengthening low-pressure system is expected to form off the Southeast coast Saturday before moving northward offshore of the Mid-Atlantic on Sunday. The storm will interact with cold air in place across the region, creating the potential for snow, gusty winds, and reduced visibility.

Snow probabilities near 40% extend across much of Delaware, including areas along Interstate 95, U.S. 13, and Route 1. Coastal locations and areas near the Delaware Bay may experience periods of rain or a rain-snow mix, while inland portions of the state have a greater likelihood of seeing accumulating snow depending on the storm’s exact track and temperature profiles.

Travel conditions could deteriorate Saturday night into Sunday as precipitation coverage increases and winds strengthen. Gusty winds may lead to reduced visibility on open roadways and elevated bridges, increasing the risk of delays and hazardous driving conditions.

Forecasters caution that uncertainty remains regarding snowfall totals, precipitation type, and the precise storm path. Coastal and bay-side areas may also see rough marine conditions and elevated water levels if strong winds coincide with high tides.

Residents are encouraged to monitor official forecasts and prepare for possible travel disruptions. Weekend commuters, service workers, and students should plan for changing conditions if the storm intensifies.
