Colorado – Loose debris rattles across sidewalks and dry grass bends low as winds increase across the Front Range this morning. The calm early hours will not last long, especially for drivers and outdoor workers by afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, a Hazardous Weather Outlook is in effect for northeast and north-central Colorado. Gusty winds develop later today, with speeds reaching 40 mph across the plains and up to 60 mph over higher terrain. These winds may create difficult driving conditions for high-profile vehicles, especially along I-25, I-70 east of Denver, and exposed north–south roadways.

Denver and Boulder start the day cool, with lows near 20 degrees, but temperatures recover quickly. Sunshine breaks through decreasing clouds this afternoon, pushing highs into the upper 40s. Despite mild temperatures, the wind adds a sharp edge and increases the risk of blowing dust in open areas.

Tonight turns calmer, with skies clearing and temperatures dropping into the 20s again. Wednesday brings quieter conditions overall. Winds relax, sunshine dominates, and highs climb into the low 50s across the metro area. Travel conditions improve, and outdoor plans become more favorable.

Attention then shifts west. By late Wednesday into Thursday, a weak disturbance brings a chance for snow showers in the mountains, especially above 9,000 feet. The Denver metro stays mostly dry, though clouds increase and nighttime temperatures dip again. Thursday and Friday remain seasonable, with highs near 50 and no major disruptions expected on the plains.

Looking ahead, temperatures trend above average into the weekend. Longer-range outlooks suggest below-normal precipitation continues into early February across much of Colorado.

For now, secure loose items today, use caution if driving high-profile vehicles, and stay alert for rapidly changing wind conditions. How strong did the winds feel where you are this morning?
