Alabama – Cold air cuts through North Alabama this morning, frosting lawns and stiffening fingers within minutes. The air feels still but biting, and even short walks demand heavy layers as winter holds firm across the Tennessee Valley.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through midmorning. Wind chills range from about five below zero to near five above, creating a real frostbite risk for anyone outdoors without proper protection.

Huntsville woke up near 12 degrees early, with calm winds doing little to soften the cold. Drivers may find slick patches on bridges and shaded roads where moisture refroze overnight. Slow down during the morning commute, especially along elevated stretches of Memorial Parkway and local overpasses.

Farther north and east, another concern lingers. A Flood Warning continues along the Paint Rock River near Woodville, impacting parts of Madison, Marshall, and Jackson counties. Minor flooding is occurring in low-lying farmland, and water levels approach roads near the river. Avoid flooded areas and never drive through standing water.

Temperatures rebound later today under sunshine, climbing into the lower 40s. Wednesday stays bright and cold, followed by slightly milder afternoons Thursday. Even so, nighttime lows remain well below freezing, keeping pipes and pets at risk across the region.

Looking toward late week and the weekend, colder air returns Friday with highs slipping back into the 30s. Any melting during the day could refreeze after sunset, renewing slick travel conditions. Long-range outlooks hint at below-normal temperatures lingering into early February across much of the Mid-South.

Limit time outside this morning, dress in layers, and check on neighbors who may need help staying warm. Traveling today? What conditions are you seeing where you live?
