Florida – Cold air presses south before sunrise, settling into low spots and backyards where breath fogs and grass crunches under thin frost. For Central Florida, it’s a sharp reminder that winter still has teeth.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Melbourne and Tampa Bay, a Freeze Warning is in effect for parts of Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties, including the Orlando metro. Temperatures are expected to dip near or below freezing late tonight, with patchy frost possible. A Cold Weather Advisory also remains in effect this morning as chilly air lingers.
Morning temperatures hover in the upper 30s to lower 40s near Orlando, climbing into the 50s and low 60s this afternoon. Winds stay light, allowing cold air to pool after sunset. Sensitive plants, exposed pipes, and pets face the greatest risk. Residents are urged to cover vegetation, bring pets indoors, and protect outdoor plumbing.
By Wednesday night into Thursday morning, another round of cold develops. Lows again dip into the mid-30s, with frost possible in sheltered areas from Orlando west toward inland Volusia and south toward Osceola County. To be fair, afternoons feel pleasant, but nights cool rapidly once the sun drops.
Looking ahead toward late week and into the weekend, temperatures slowly moderate. However, clear skies and dry air keep overnight chills noticeable. Long-range outlooks suggest drier-than-normal conditions across Florida, while much of the Southeast trends warmer into early February.
For now, cold-weather precautions matter. Plan evening outdoor activities carefully and check irrigation systems. Are you seeing frost or fog forming near your home tonight?
