Grand Rapids, Michigan – Drivers across Western Michigan could face slick roads and reduced visibility starting overnight as snow and strong winds spread across the region, creating hazardous travel conditions for much of Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from midnight through 7 p.m. Tuesday for portions of southwest and west central Michigan. Snow totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected closer to Lake Michigan, while areas farther inland, including the Grand Rapids metro, could see 1 to 3 inches. Wind gusts may reach up to 35 mph, leading to blowing and drifting snow.

The advisory includes Muskegon, Oceana, Mason, Ottawa, Allegan, and Van Buren counties, as well as Kent, Barry, Kalamazoo, Lake, and Newaygo counties. Cities such as Muskegon, Grand Haven, Holland, South Haven, Ludington, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Hastings, and Fremont are likely to see the most persistent impacts during the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

Road conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly at times, especially on north-south routes exposed to gusty winds. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and watch for sudden drops in visibility in open areas.

Snow tapers off Tuesday evening, but slick spots may linger into the night as temperatures remain cold. Additional advisories could be issued if snowfall totals increase or winds remain stronger than expected.
