Deland, Florida – Inland areas of Central Florida are facing a rare and potentially damaging cold snap overnight, with freezing temperatures expected to settle in before daybreak Tuesday and linger through the early morning hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Freeze Warning and Cold Weather Advisory remain in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday for inland Volusia County along with northern and southern Lake counties. Overnight lows are expected to dip to around 30 degrees, while wind chills could fall as low as 25, creating dangerous conditions for sensitive vegetation and unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Communities including Deland, Deltona, Debary, Leesburg, Eustis, Mount Dora, Clermont, Tavares, and Groveland are all within the warning area. Cold air settling across the interior is expected to be more intense away from the immediate coast, increasing the risk of frost and hard freeze conditions.

Residents are urged to cover tender plants, bring pets indoors, and insulate exposed pipes. Anyone traveling or working outdoors early Tuesday should dress in layers, including hats and gloves, to prevent cold-related health issues.

The cold pattern is not finished. A Freeze Watch is already in effect for late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with temperatures potentially dropping to the upper 20s. Additional advisories may be issued as conditions evolve.
