Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – A prolonged stretch of dangerously cold weather will continue across the Philadelphia region through midweek, with a Cold Weather Advisory in effect through Wednesday morning and wind chills dropping well below zero.

According to the National Weather Service Philadelphia/Mount Holly, wind chills are expected to fall between 0 and -10 degrees for most areas tonight and Tuesday morning, with localized wind chills as low as -15 degrees, especially in the Poconos and higher elevations. Similar conditions are possible again Wednesday morning.

Overnight low temperatures will dip into the single digits and teens, while daytime highs remain below freezing, prolonging cold exposure risks. Forecasters warn that hypothermia and frostbite can occur with extended time outdoors, particularly during early-morning and nighttime hours.

The NWS says the cold may intensify later in the week, with Thursday and Friday nights potentially becoming the coldest period, as wind chills could reach as low as -25 degrees in parts of eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Officials also note an increased risk of energy infrastructure impacts, as high heating demand continues following the recent winter storm. Residents are urged to conserve energy where possible and report outages promptly.

These conditions are especially hazardous for commuters, outdoor workers, students, unhoused individuals, and the elderly, particularly during morning travel hours.

Residents are advised to dress in multiple layers, limit time outdoors, bring pets indoors, protect pipes, and check on neighbors through the remainder of the week.
