Nashville, Tennessee – Life-threatening cold has gripped Tennessee as temperatures plunge below zero across much of the state, with wind chills adding to the danger through at least the weekend. Nashville will dip to 1°F early Tuesday, while areas like Lafayette and Clarksville are expected to reach zero or even negative readings.
According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, overnight lows will remain in the single digits or lower through early Tuesday, with another surge of Arctic air expected to hit Friday. Wind chills could drop well below zero, especially in northern and higher-elevation counties, posing risks to anyone without reliable heat.
Clarksville, Waverly, and Smithville will struggle to climb above freezing even during daylight hours, while towns like Tullahoma and Waynesboro may get brief daytime relief in the mid-20s before sinking back down each night. Officials are urging residents to check on elderly neighbors, bring pets inside, and locate warming shelters if heat sources are unavailable.
The cold spell is expected to ease slightly midweek before another round of frigid air arrives Friday. Power outages could intensify the hazard, with NWS warning the cold “could be life-threatening to those without power.”
