Cincinnati, Ohio – Subzero wind chills are gripping Ohio this week, with nighttime lows expected to plunge as low as -27°F in northern parts of the state and remain dangerously cold across the region through Thursday morning. In Cincinnati, wind chills near -15°F are forecast, with colder readings in Dayton, Newark, and Wilmington dropping between -21°F and -25°F.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio, the prolonged arctic outbreak will keep overnight lows near or below zero, with the coldest impacts arriving Monday night and lasting through Thursday night. A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for much of southwest and central Ohio, where apparent temperatures could cause frostbite in under 30 minutes.
Cities like Chillicothe, Portsmouth, and Falmouth are all under the same brutal cold pattern, prompting officials in Hamilton County to warn residents to limit time outdoors, bring pets inside, and layer clothing if travel is necessary. Road conditions have improved since last week’s winter storm, but the extreme cold poses a renewed hazard.
Officials urge residents to check on vulnerable neighbors and locate nearby warming shelters at hcema.org.
Warnings for dangerous wind chills remain in place across the state, with continued updates expected as temperatures hold near record lows.
