Fort Worth, Texas – Bitter cold temperatures are gripping North and Central Texas this week, with dangerous wind chills dropping as low as -5°F across the Dallas-Fort Worth area and beyond through 9 a.m. Tuesday. Residents across Waco, Canton, Stephenville, and Killeen woke up to sharp cold and frostbite-level wind chills.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, an Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect across the region, with actual low temperatures ranging from 7°F to 16°F. The frigid air, combined with light winds, will make it feel significantly colder during early morning hours. Cities including Sherman, Graham, and Palestine are also under the advisory.
Hazards tied to this Arctic air include hypothermia and frozen pipes. Residents are urged to dress in lightweight, warm layers, limit time outdoors, and bring pets and plants inside. Space heaters should be used with care—keep flammables at least three feet away, and never leave heaters unattended. People living in mobile homes or without consistent heat should seek warm shelter through Tuesday morning.
This cold follows a round of freezing fog impacting the same area, creating ongoing travel and visibility concerns. Freezing fog may return Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
