Bangor, ME – Snow continued across the Bangor area early Monday morning, creating slick roads, reduced visibility, and a difficult commute, particularly during peak travel hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, higher snowfall rates are expected during the morning, mainly south of Houlton and across Downeast and central Maine, including Bangor. Forecasters said snowfall rates may reach up to 1 inch per hour at times, increasing the risk of hazardous travel conditions.

The National Weather Service reported that conditions are expected to improve later Monday, as snowfall intensity decreases during the afternoon and transitions to lighter snow showers. Until then, drivers should expect snow-covered roads, limited visibility, and slower travel speeds, especially on untreated and secondary roads.

Wind gusts across the region may also contribute to blowing snow in open areas, further reducing visibility at times. While the strongest impacts are focused on the morning commute, lingering slick spots may persist into midday as temperatures remain cold.

Officials are asking residents to submit snowfall reports, including location, time of measurement, and total accumulation, to help improve situational awareness as the storm progresses.

Commuters, students, and workers heading out early Monday are urged to allow extra time, maintain safe following distances, and use caution at intersections and highway ramps.

The National Weather Service emphasized that while travel conditions will gradually improve, winter driving hazards remain possible until snow tapers off later in the day.

Additional updates will be issued as conditions evolve across central and Downeast Maine.
