Cincinnati, OH – A prolonged arctic outbreak is settling into the Cincinnati area this week, bringing dangerously cold wind chills as low as -25 degrees and overnight temperatures near or below zero.

According to the National Weather Service Wilmington, Ohio, the region will experience extended periods of subzero wind chill values, with the coldest conditions expected Monday night into early Tuesday. Daily high temperatures are forecast to reach only the teens, while overnight lows are expected to remain near or below zero through the foreseeable future.

Forecasters said the cold will persist through the week and into the weekend, increasing risks related to frostbite, hypothermia, and frozen pipes. Wind chills between -15 and -25 degrees may develop during the overnight and early morning hours, especially during periods of stronger winds.

The National Weather Service urged residents to prepare now for extended dangerous cold conditions, including dressing in multiple layers, covering exposed skin, and limiting time outdoors whenever possible. Officials also advised checking on vulnerable neighbors, pets, and those without reliable heat.

Travel impacts are possible as extreme cold may lead to icy patches on untreated roads and mechanical issues for vehicles. Commuters heading out early, including students and workers with morning shifts, should allow extra time and ensure vehicles are winter-ready.

Emergency managers remind residents that the prolonged nature of this cold snap increases risks beyond a single night, particularly for those spending extended time outside.

Additional updates and safety guidance will be issued as the arctic air mass remains locked over the region.
