Maine — Headlights glow against blowing snow as plows carve narrow paths through white-coated roads. The cold stings exposed skin. Snow continues to stack up across far northern Maine as winter tightens its grip.
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Caribou area through early Tuesday. Snow continues this morning with periods of reduced visibility, especially along rural roads and open stretches. Total snowfall of 3 to 8 inches is expected across northeast Aroostook County before the system winds down.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snow-covered roads and limited visibility will make travel hazardous through the day. Conditions may briefly improve at times, but additional snow showers redevelop later, keeping surfaces slick. Drivers should slow down and allow extra distance for braking.
Temperatures remain brutally cold. Readings sit below zero early, with wind chills plunging to -20 degrees or colder at times. That deep cold keeps snow powdery, allowing it to blow back across cleared roads. Dress in layers and limit time outdoors when possible.
Snow tapers later tonight, but impacts linger. Any melting during daylight will refreeze quickly after sunset, increasing the risk of flash freezing. Side roads, driveways, and untreated surfaces remain icy into Tuesday morning.
Tuesday turns partly sunny but stays frigid. Highs struggle to reach the mid-teens, and wind chills remain below zero. Conditions slowly improve midweek as skies brighten, though overnight lows stay well below zero.
By Thursday and Friday, another weak system may bring light snow chances, but no major accumulation is expected. The 6–10 day outlook favors drier conditions with continued cold across northern Maine.
