Vermont — Snow falls thick and steady across the Champlain Valley this morning, clinging to trees and piling quickly on untreated roads. The air feels sharp and brittle. Every step crunches louder as temperatures struggle to rise.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Burlington and much of northern Vermont into early Tuesday. Snow totals of 3 to 7 inches are expected in the valley, with higher amounts possible toward the Green Mountains. Snowfall rates may briefly exceed one inch per hour during heavier bands.

Travel impacts build through the day. Slippery conditions are expected on I-89, Route 7, and secondary roads, especially on bridges and overpasses. Visibility drops quickly during bursts of snow. Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and delay travel when possible.

Cold air tightens its grip tonight as snow tapers. Temperatures drop near zero, with wind chills sinking well below zero. Any melting during daylight hours refreezes fast, creating a high flash-freeze risk on parking lots, sidewalks, and side streets.

Tuesday turns quieter but remains bitter. Skies partially clear, yet highs only reach the mid-teens. Light winds offer little relief from the cold. Wednesday and Thursday stay dry, but winter remains firmly in control with below-normal temperatures lingering.

Looking ahead, precipitation chances trend lower late week into early February. Cold air holds across northern New England, while milder air builds farther south.

If you must travel today, pack warm layers, food, and water. Keep phones charged. Seeing slick spots or heavier snow where you are? Share what conditions look like in your neighborhood.
