Pueblo, Colorado – Drivers east of Pueblo are facing an immediate and dangerous travel threat tonight as a fast-moving snow squall brings sudden whiteout conditions and blowing snow to parts of Pueblo County.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Snow Squall Warning is in effect until 8:30 p.m. for east central Pueblo County. Radar indicated an intense snow squall near Boone, about 13 miles east of Pueblo Memorial Airport, moving southeast at 15 mph. The storm is producing brief but heavy bursts of snow, wind gusts over 35 mph, and rapidly falling visibility.

The most dangerous impacts are expected along Highway 50 from Boone to near Fowler. Conditions can deteriorate within minutes as heavy snow combines with strong winds, creating blowing snow and sudden near-zero visibility. Officials warn that travel may quickly become difficult and potentially dangerous, especially for drivers caught unaware.

Snow squalls are short-lived but highly hazardous, often catching motorists off guard due to the rapid onset of whiteout conditions. Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down immediately, turn on headlights, and avoid sudden braking if visibility drops. If possible, delaying travel until the squall passes is advised.

The snow squall is expected to move out of the area later this evening, but slick spots may remain on roadways after it ends. Drivers are urged to remain alert and monitor updates until conditions improve.
