Boston, Massachusetts – A powerful winter storm continued to intensify across southern New England Sunday afternoon, bringing heavy snow, dangerous travel conditions, and the potential for significant disruptions through Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Monday for much of Massachusetts, northern Connecticut, and all of Rhode Island. Snow totals of 12 to 20 inches are expected across inland areas, with localized amounts of 20 to 24 inches possible in parts of northeast and western Massachusetts. Coastal communities, including Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, and Block Island, are forecast to receive 7 to 12 inches of snow, accompanied by wind gusts up to 35 mph.

The heaviest impacts are expected across the Boston metro area, Worcester County, the Merrimack Valley, and western Massachusetts, where snowfall rates could significantly reduce visibility and quickly cover roads. In Rhode Island and northern Connecticut, cities such as Providence, Warwick, Hartford, and Willimantic are also bracing for prolonged periods of heavy snow.

Transportation officials strongly discourage travel, warning that snow-covered roads and low visibility will make driving difficult and hazardous. Residents are urged to prepare emergency supplies, charge devices, and plan to stay off the roads if possible.

Snow is expected to continue through Monday with conditions slowly improving late Monday night. Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect through the evening, and additional updates are expected as the storm evolves.
