Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – A powerful winter storm tightened its grip across western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia Sunday evening, dumping heavy snow and ice that is expected to make travel extremely dangerous through Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon Monday for much of the region, including the Pittsburgh metro area. Snow and sleet totals are expected to range from 9 to 16 inches in parts of western and southwest Pennsylvania, with higher amounts in elevated terrain. Ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch are also possible in portions of northern West Virginia, particularly in Preston and Tucker counties.

Road conditions deteriorated rapidly Sunday afternoon across Allegheny, Westmoreland, Washington, Butler, and Beaver counties, with untreated roads becoming snow covered and slick. Travel conditions are also hazardous across eastern Ohio, including Belmont, Guernsey, Muskingum, and Columbiana counties, as well as in West Virginia communities such as Morgantown, Fairmont, Wheeling, and Kingwood.

Emergency officials urge residents to delay all non-essential travel, warning that plow crews may struggle to keep up with snowfall rates overnight. The storm is expected to significantly impact the Monday morning commute, especially in hilly and higher elevation areas where snow totals will be greatest.

Snow and mixed precipitation are expected to continue overnight before tapering off late Monday morning. Warnings remain in effect through midday, and additional updates may be issued as conditions evolve.
