Tallahassee, Florida – A significant outbreak of Arctic air is expected to bring hard freezes and dangerously cold wind chills to the Tallahassee area beginning Monday night and lasting through much of next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, an Arctic air mass will settle across the region late Monday, leading to medium to high chances of hard freezes each night starting Monday night. Overnight temperatures are forecast to drop into the 20s, with some locations potentially falling into the upper teens by Tuesday morning.
Wind chills will make conditions feel even colder. Forecasters said wind chill values in the teens and 20s are expected across the region, with the coldest wind chills likely Tuesday morning. These conditions can pose risks for prolonged outdoor exposure, especially during overnight and early morning hours.
The National Weather Service warned that the cold spell will be prolonged, increasing the risk of impacts to people, pets, plants, and pipes. Residents are urged to take precautions ahead of time, including protecting sensitive vegetation, bringing pets indoors, and insulating or dripping exposed pipes.
In addition to the cold, breezy conditions are expected Sunday, with wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph possible outside of storms. While the strongest winds are expected Sunday afternoon, cold air arriving behind the system will reinforce the sharp temperature drop early next week.
The cold weather may affect early-morning commuters, outdoor workers, students, and residents without adequate heating. Officials emphasized that preparation should be completed before Monday night, as cold conditions will persist for several consecutive nights.
The National Weather Service advised residents to monitor forecast updates, as timing and severity of the cold could still shift slightly. Confidence remains high that this will be one of the coldest stretches of the season for the Tallahassee area.
