Tucson, Arizona – Snow continues to fall across Arizona’s high terrain this weekend, creating hazardous travel conditions and prompting winter weather advisories for mountain regions from southern Arizona to the White Mountains.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Tucson and Flagstaff, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect through early Sunday for elevations above 7,000 feet across the Catalina, Rincon, Pinaleno, Galiuro, Chiricahua, Chuska, and White Mountains. Additional snowfall of 4 to 8 inches is expected in many areas, with storm totals reaching 6 to 12 inches and locally higher amounts above 8,000 feet.

Travel impacts are greatest on mountain roads leading to destinations such as Mount Lemmon near Tucson, Mount Graham, Hannagan Meadow, Summerhaven, Pinetop-Lakeside, Greer, and Alpine. Roads, bridges, and overpasses may quickly become slick or snow-packed, with periods of reduced visibility during heavier snowfall. Travel is strongly discouraged at higher elevations, especially overnight.

In the White Mountains, snowfall could exceed a foot on the highest peaks, while areas such as Window Rock and Ganado may see lighter accumulations but still face hazardous driving conditions due to icy roads. Even lower elevations near mountain bases could experience slick spots from blowing snow and cold pavement.

Drivers are urged to slow down, carry winter safety gear, and avoid unnecessary mountain travel. Road conditions and closures can be checked by calling 511 or visiting az511.gov. Snow is expected to taper early Sunday morning, though dangerous travel conditions may linger well beyond the advisory period.
