MEDFORD, Ore. — The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for parts of the south-central Oregon coast early Saturday, with overnight temperatures expected to drop well below freezing.

The warning is in effect from 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. PST Saturday for coastal areas of Coos and Douglas counties, including the communities of Coos Bay, North Bend, Bandon and Reedsport, according to the National Weather Service office in Medford.

Forecasters said temperatures along the coast could fall as low as 24 degrees, an unusually cold reading for the region.

The freezing conditions could damage or kill sensitive crops and vegetation and may also harm unprotected outdoor plumbing, officials warned.

Residents are urged to take precautions by covering or bringing plants indoors and protecting exposed pipes and outdoor faucets from freezing.

Temperatures are expected to rebound later Saturday morning as the freeze warning expires.
