Quad Cities, Iowa – Snow is expected to spread into parts of western Illinois and northeast Missouri later Saturday, leading to increasingly slick roads and travel concerns that could last into Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon for Hancock and McDonough counties in Illinois, along with Clark and Scotland counties in Missouri. Snowfall totals are expected to range from 1 to 4 inches, with steady accumulation developing after midafternoon and continuing at times through Sunday.

Communities including Macomb, Carthage, Kahoka, and Memphis are likely to see snow-covered roads develop by Saturday evening. Untreated streets, bridges, and overpasses could become slippery quickly as temperatures remain cold enough for snow to stick. Rural highways and secondary roads may be especially hazardous overnight and early Sunday.

Drivers traveling along U.S. 67, U.S. 136, and surrounding county roads should plan for reduced traction and slower travel. Transportation officials urge motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach destinations. Illinois road conditions can be checked at gettingaroundillinois.com, while Missouri drivers can visit modot.org or call 511.

Snow is expected to gradually taper Sunday afternoon, though lingering slick spots may persist beyond the advisory period. Additional advisories could be issued if snowfall totals increase or road conditions worsen.
