Omaha, Nebraska – Snow continues to create travel concerns across southeast Nebraska early Saturday, with slick roads expected to persist in some areas through Sunday morning as light accumulations add up.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through early Sunday for Jefferson, Gage, Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee, and Richardson counties, where up to two additional inches of snow are possible. Farther north and east, including Omaha, Lincoln, Bellevue, Papillion, and Nebraska City, advisories remain in place through midday Saturday, with lighter accumulations up to one inch.
Road conditions are expected to remain slick across portions of I-80, U.S. 75, U.S. 77, and surrounding state highways, particularly on untreated surfaces, bridges, and overpasses. Morning travel around Omaha and Lincoln may be slowed by snow-covered secondary roads, while areas farther south such as Beatrice, Fairbury, Tecumseh, Auburn, and Falls City could see lingering issues into Saturday night and early Sunday.
Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach destinations. Even light snowfall can reduce traction quickly when temperatures remain below freezing.
Snow should gradually taper across eastern Nebraska later Saturday, but colder temperatures will allow slick spots to linger, especially overnight. Drivers are encouraged to check the latest road conditions by calling 511 before traveling, as advisories remain in effect and could be adjusted if conditions change.
