Kansas City, Missouri – Snow continues to blanket large portions of northern Missouri and far northeast Kansas this weekend, keeping roads slick and travel conditions hazardous through Sunday evening as a prolonged winter system remains in place.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 6 p.m. Sunday for northeast Kansas and much of north-central, northeast, and northwest Missouri. Additional snowfall of 2 to 4 inches is expected, adding to existing accumulations and prolonging travel concerns.

In Missouri, impacts stretch from St. Joseph and Maryville east through Chillicothe, Kirksville, Moberly, Brookfield, and Macon. Snow-covered roads are expected to persist along key routes including U.S. 36, U.S. 65, and U.S. 71, as well as numerous rural highways. In northeast Kansas, Doniphan County and nearby areas may also experience slick conditions, particularly on untreated roads and bridges.

While snowfall rates are not expected to be intense, cold temperatures will allow snow to remain on roadways, especially during overnight and early morning hours. Drivers should plan for reduced traction, longer stopping distances, and slower travel times throughout the weekend.

Motorists are urged to slow down, avoid unnecessary travel, and check conditions before heading out. Road updates are available by calling 511 in Kansas and through the Missouri Department of Transportation website. Snow is expected to taper Sunday evening, though slick spots may linger beyond the advisory period.
