State College, Pennsylvania – A major winter storm is expected to deliver heavy, long-duration snowfall across central Pennsylvania beginning late Saturday night, creating widespread travel disruptions that could last into Monday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from late Saturday night through early Monday afternoon for much of central Pennsylvania. Snow will overspread the region Saturday night and intensify through Sunday, with snowfall rates reaching one to two inches per hour at times.

Communities including State College, Altoona, Johnstown, Williamsport, Harrisburg, Lancaster, York, Lewistown, and Chambersburg are expected to receive between 10 and 18 inches of snow. Travel along major corridors such as Interstate 80, Interstate 99, Interstate 81, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and Route 322 could become extremely difficult to impossible during periods of heavy snowfall.

In southern counties near the Pennsylvania Turnpike, snow may briefly mix with sleet or freezing rain Sunday afternoon, which could slightly reduce snowfall totals but increase the risk of slick road surfaces. Blowing and drifting snow is also possible as winds pick up, further reducing visibility.

Frigid temperatures will accompany the storm before, during, and after snowfall, increasing the risk of icy roads and making cleanup efforts more challenging. Officials urge residents to delay all non-essential travel, prepare vehicles with emergency supplies, and monitor updates from PennDOT and local emergency management.

Snow is expected to gradually taper Monday morning into early afternoon, but lingering impacts are likely to affect the Monday commute. Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect through Monday, and additional advisories may follow as conditions evolve.
