Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – A powerful winter storm continues to impact nearly all of Oklahoma and portions of northern Texas early Saturday, bringing heavy snow, sleet, and dangerous cold that will keep travel conditions hazardous through Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through Sunday midday across much of the state, including Oklahoma City, Norman, Stillwater, Enid, Lawton, Ardmore, and Ponca City. Northern and central Oklahoma are expected to see six inches or more of snow, while southern Oklahoma and adjacent parts of north Texas face significant sleet accumulations that could reach up to one inch, with a light glaze of ice possible.
Road conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly on major corridors such as I-35, I-40, I-44, and U.S. 81 as snow and sleet continue to fall. Bridges and overpasses will become especially slick, and visibility may drop during heavier bursts of snow. The combination of snow-packed roads and ice will make travel very difficult throughout the weekend.
In addition to wintry precipitation, dangerously cold wind chills are expected through Sunday morning. Officials urge residents to stay indoors when possible, dress in layers if venturing outside, and ensure pets and vulnerable populations are protected from the cold.
Snow and sleet should gradually taper by late Sunday morning, but lingering slick roads and cold conditions may persist beyond the end of the storm. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through Sunday, and additional updates are expected as conditions evolve.
