Ohio – Snow squeaks underfoot this morning as bitter air grips northern Ohio, and Lake Erie sits steel-gray under low clouds. The cold cuts fast. Conditions are already primed for a high-impact winter stretch in and around Cleveland.
A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect early, with wind chills dipping as low as 17 degrees below zero across northeast Ohio. According to the National Weather Service, those dangerous wind chills raise the risk of frostbite and hypothermia for anyone outdoors without protection.
Attention quickly shifts to a Winter Storm Warning beginning this evening and lasting into Monday morning. Snow spreads into the Cleveland metro after sunset, intensifying overnight and continuing through Sunday. Total snowfall between 7 and 16 inches is expected across portions of north-central and northeast Ohio, including Cuyahoga, Lake, and Lorain counties.
Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly. Roads such as I-90, I-71, I-77, and the Shoreway may become snow-covered with poor visibility at times. The Ohio Department of Transportation urges drivers to delay non-essential travel, especially during heavier snow bands.
The cold will not let up. Subzero wind chills return late tonight and again Sunday night into Monday morning. Snow tapers gradually late Sunday night, but lingering lake-enhanced snow showers may keep roads slick into Monday.
Daytime temperatures struggle to climb out of the teens early next week, increasing the risk of flash freezing where snow briefly melts during daylight hours. Even treated roads may refreeze quickly after sunset.
Looking ahead, colder-than-normal temperatures persist through midweek, while snow chances ease later next week.
If you’re traveling or commuting, allow extra time and dress for extreme cold. Seeing heavy snow where you are? Share what conditions look like in your neighborhood.
