Kentucky starts the morning under a hard freeze, with snow-packed shoulders and a raw north wind cutting across open ground.
The air feels sharp. Pavement looks dull and slick. Winter conditions are already in motion across the Ohio Valley.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Louisville and much of south-central Kentucky and southern Indiana through early Monday. Snow, sleet, and freezing rain will rotate through the region as colder air deepens. Meteorologists are tracking a long-duration storm with multiple impacts.

Snow becomes steadier through the day, with 1 to 2 inches possible by afternoon. Conditions deteriorate quickly this evening as precipitation intensifies. Overnight, snowfall could become heavy at times. Additional accumulations of 3 to 7 inches are likely before tapering Sunday.

On Sunday, snow may mix with sleet and freezing rain at times. Southern Kentucky faces the highest icing risk, with up to three-quarters of an inch of ice possible in isolated areas. Ice accumulation raises concern for tree damage and power outages.

Travel may become nearly impossible at times. Roads like I-64, I-65, I-71, and the Gene Snyder Freeway are especially vulnerable during heavier bursts. Visibility drops fast when snow bands pass through. Plan extra time if travel is unavoidable.

Temperatures remain cold enough to prevent meaningful melting. Any daytime improvement will be brief. Flash freezing is likely once precipitation lightens and winds remain brisk.

By Monday, snow gradually tapers, but impacts linger. Highs struggle near 13°F, keeping roads icy through the day. Cleanup and restoration efforts may extend into midweek.

Looking ahead, colder-than-normal air holds through Wednesday, while precipitation chances ease later next week.

Limit travel when possible. Prepare for outages and slick roads. What conditions are you seeing near you right now?
