Maryland – Cold air grips the Mid-Atlantic this morning, stiffening fingers and frosting windshields before sunrise. Skies look calm for now, but a high-impact winter system is already closing in from the southwest.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect this morning as wind chills dip near 9 degrees below zero. A Winter Storm Warning follows later, stretching from Saturday evening through early Monday. Snow and sleet totals between 7 and 14 inches are expected across central and northern Maryland, including Baltimore, with ice accumulations possible south and east of the city.

Temperatures hover near 13 degrees early and struggle to climb into the low 20s. Snow develops and intensifies Sunday, turning heavy at times. Sleet and freezing rain may mix in, especially closer to the I-95 corridor. Gusty winds will lower visibility and worsen travel as snow piles up faster than plows can clear it.

Drivers along I-95, I-83, and the Baltimore Beltway should prepare for rapidly deteriorating road conditions. Flash freezing remains a serious risk as any daytime melting refreezes quickly after sunset. Power outages and tree damage are possible where ice accumulates.

Residents are urged to delay non-essential travel, charge devices, and check heating systems now. Keep extra blankets, food, and medications ready. If travel is unavoidable, carry emergency supplies and allow extra time.

Snow tapers Monday, but cold air lingers into midweek. Temperatures remain below normal through Thursday, with additional snow chances and icy mornings ahead.

Weather alerts remain active, and updates are likely as the storm evolves.
