Columbus, Ohio – A powerful winter storm is poised to bring hazardous conditions across the Ohio Valley beginning Sunday night, with heavy snow, dangerous cold, and pockets of ice expected to disrupt travel and daily routines across multiple states through early next week.

According to the National Weather Service, snow will expand across Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia late Sunday, becoming heavy at times through Monday. Arctic air pouring in behind the system will drive temperatures sharply lower, creating dangerous wind chills and increasing the risk of frostbite, especially during overnight hours and early morning commutes.

The greatest travel impacts are expected along major routes including Interstate 70, Interstate 71, Interstate 75, and Interstate 64, where snow-covered and icy roads could develop quickly. Central and northern Ohio and much of Indiana may see the highest snowfall potential, while southern Kentucky and parts of West Virginia could experience sleet or freezing rain that raises concerns for power outages and tree damage.

Emergency officials urge residents to avoid non-essential travel during periods of heavy snow, prepare vehicles with winter supplies, and ensure pets and vulnerable individuals have adequate warmth. Prolonged cold could also strain heating systems and utilities.

Winter weather warnings are expected to remain in effect through Tuesday, with additional advisories possible as the storm system evolves across the Ohio Valley.
