New York City, New York – A major winter storm is expected to impact the city and surrounding region beginning early Sunday, prompting Winter Storm Warnings across the metro area and raising concerns about dangerous travel and significant disruptions.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, snowfall totals across much of the city are forecast to range from 12 to 16 inches, with locally higher amounts possible in interior sections of the metro area. Recent forecast updates increased snow totals inland while slightly reducing amounts for far southeastern areas.

Snow is expected to begin early Sunday morning and intensify through the day, continuing into Sunday night and much of Monday. Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly, with snow-covered roads, reduced visibility, and potential impacts to mass transit and air travel.

Forecasters also note the potential for light ice accumulation late Sunday night into early Monday across Long Island and southern portions of New York City, due to a brief period of wintry mix. While ice amounts are expected to remain light, even small accumulations could worsen already hazardous conditions.

Residents are urged to complete preparations ahead of the storm, avoid unnecessary travel, and monitor official updates as conditions evolve through Monday.
