Albany, New York – A powerful and long-lasting winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow and dangerous travel conditions across eastern New York and western New England beginning Sunday morning, with impacts lasting into Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7 a.m. Sunday until 7 p.m. Monday for all of eastern New York, western Massachusetts, western Connecticut, and southern Vermont. Snowfall totals between 12 and 18 inches are expected, with the highest amounts likely in the eastern Catskills, the Mid-Hudson Valley, and parts of western New England.

Statewide impacts are expected to intensify Sunday afternoon as snowfall rates increase. Snow may fall at rates exceeding one inch per hour at times, especially Sunday afternoon into Sunday night, leading to rapidly deteriorating road conditions and poor visibility. Major travel corridors including Interstate 87, Interstate 90, Interstate 88, and the Taconic State Parkway could become snow-covered and hazardous.

In the Capital Region, including Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Saratoga Springs, and surrounding communities, residents should prepare for prolonged snow and difficult travel. Roads are expected to remain dangerous Sunday night, and light snow may linger through much of Monday, prolonging cleanup efforts and continuing travel disruptions.

Officials urge residents to delay non-essential travel, particularly Sunday night, and ensure vehicles are stocked with emergency supplies if travel is unavoidable. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through Monday evening, and additional updates may follow as the storm continues to evolve across the region.
