Hereford, Texas – Heavy snow continues to impact portions of the Texas Panhandle, creating dangerous travel conditions across Deaf Smith and Oldham counties that are expected to persist through Sunday midday.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon Sunday for Deaf Smith and Oldham counties, including the communities of Hereford, Vega, Wildorado, Dawn, and Boys Ranch. Snow accumulations between 5 and 8 inches are expected, enough to cause ongoing disruptions across the region.

Road conditions are expected to remain hazardous as snow continues through Saturday night. Bridges and overpasses are especially vulnerable to icing, while reduced visibility and snow-packed roadways could make travel very difficult. TxDOT crews are working to treat major routes, but continued snowfall may limit improvements along U.S. Highway 60, Interstate 40, and surrounding rural roads.

Local officials urge residents to delay all non-essential travel, particularly Saturday night when conditions may worsen. Drivers who must be on the roads should carry emergency supplies including food, water, and flashlights, and allow extra time to reach destinations.

The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through noon Sunday, with gradual improvement expected afterward. Residents should continue monitoring local alerts and check road conditions by calling 800-452-9292 before attempting travel.
