Boise, Idaho – A relatively quiet winter pattern is expected across Idaho from Friday through early the following week, bringing continued cold conditions in some areas but limited chances for widespread or significant snowfall.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, the 8 to 14-day outlook for Jan. 30 through Feb. 5 places Idaho largely outside the core of the strongest cold dominating the Midwest and East Coast. Northern and eastern Idaho trend closer to near-normal temperatures, while southern and western portions may lean slightly below normal at times, particularly during overnight hours.
High temperatures across Boise, Twin Falls, Pocatello, and Idaho Falls are expected to remain seasonable to slightly below average, with overnight lows frequently falling below freezing. In northern Idaho, including Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint, and Lewiston, temperatures may fluctuate closer to normal, especially during daytime hours. The sharpest and most persistent cold remains centered east of the Rockies, keeping Idaho from experiencing the most extreme anomalies.
Precipitation trends during this period favor below-normal snowfall across much of the state. The outlook shows a generally drier pattern stretching from the northern Rockies into the central Plains, limiting the frequency of organized winter storm systems. While occasional light snow or mountain snow showers are possible, especially in higher elevations of central Idaho and along the Bitterroots, the pattern does not support repeated or high-impact snowfall.
More active precipitation is expected to remain focused along the Pacific Coast and into parts of the Pacific Northwest, leaving Idaho in a relative lull. That may allow for extended dry stretches, though slick conditions can still develop quickly during overnight freezing or brief snow events.
Idaho residents should continue winter travel precautions, especially in mountain passes and during early morning hours. With fewer storms expected, impacts appear limited, though additional outlook updates may refine temperature and snowfall expectations as the period approaches.
