Shreveport, Louisiana – Roads across the Ark-La-Tex could become nearly impassable beginning Friday night as a powerful winter storm spreads ice, sleet, and snow across the region, threatening widespread power outages and dangerous travel through Sunday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from Friday evening through Sunday midday for portions of southwest and south-central Arkansas, north Louisiana, southeast Oklahoma, and northeast Texas. Areas north of Interstate 30, including Texarkana, De Queen, and Broken Bow, could see up to 4 inches of snow and sleet. Locations between Interstate 20 and Interstate 30, including Shreveport, Longview, Tyler, and Monroe, may receive 1 to 3 inches of wintry accumulation.

The greatest concern is ice. Between U.S. Highway 82 and U.S. Highway 84, ice accumulations of one-half inch to one inch are possible, with locally higher amounts near the Interstate 20 corridor. The weight of ice may bring down trees and power lines, leading to long-lasting outages.

Travel on major routes such as I-20, I-30, U.S. 59, and U.S. 71 could become extremely hazardous, especially overnight and early morning. Residents are urged to delay travel, prepare for power disruptions, and keep emergency supplies ready. Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect through Sunday, and additional alerts may be issued as conditions worsen.
